ProTip: How to Include Uneditable Text in Your Forms

Originally published on 02/23/2016

Need specific text to be uneditable on your digital forms? We have two solutions for you!

Digital forms are often seen primarily as a tool for data capture, but their utility extends far beyond that. There are scenarios where the data must remain unchanged. Digital forms excel in this aspect by allowing data to be locked, ensuring its integrity and preventing unauthorized modifications. Moreover, digital forms can be easily updated and modified, reducing the need for creating new forms from scratch for every minor change. This adaptability enhances efficiency by ensuring that the latest version of the form is always in use. Thus, digital and online forms provide a flexible and secure solution for both capturing and preserving critical data.

With GoFormz, users can leverage powerful features such as automated workflows and conditional logic built into forms. The platform's capabilities extend to image and sketch fields, file attachments, electronic signatures, and data routing, ensuring both security and integrity. One of the standout features of GoFormz is the ability to include uneditable text within your forms, providing a reliable way to protect critical information from unauthorized changes. Here’s how you can utilize this feature:

Option 1: Page Elements

The easiest way to achieve uneditable text on your digital form template is through our Page Elements feature.

  1. Start by opening up your desired digital form Template in the Template Editor.

  2. On the left-hand side of your screen, you’ll see a left panel with an icon called ‘Page Editor’. Select it and you should then see the Page Elements side panel appear.

  3. Drag and drop a Text box onto your digital form template and type in your desired copy.

  4. On the right-hand side of your screen, the Properties Panel will appear. Use this to adjust your text accordingly.

  5. Once your text is in the desired location, looking the way you want, click back into the Field Editor and you will then have uneditable text on your digital form template.

Option 2: Calculation Builder

For this example, we are going to create a Text field that has contract language as default text, and then set that field as a non-editable object.

  1. Begin by opening up your digital form Template and drag a Text field to the desired location on your digital form.

  2. Next, take the time to properly format your Text field using the Properties Panel on the right-hand side of your screen.

  3. If your text is longer than a few words, select ‘Yes’ in the multi-line drop-down box in the Properties Panel.

  4. Next, locate the Default Value box in the Properties Panel and include your text in the box as follows: = “YOUR DEFAULT TEXT HERE”

  5. This will pre-populate your desired text into the field and make it uneditable at the same time.
